The Symposium on Latest Advances in Marine Land Development Technology is an important academic event co-hosted by HKUST and HKUST(GZ). It aims to promote the transformation of scientific research achievements, university-enterprise collaboration, and exchanges and cooperation between the two regions in the field of marine engineering. The 1st and 2nd symposia were held at HKUST, focusing on basic sciences, engineering technologies for future offshore human settlements, and Hong Kong's reclamation projects. The 3rd symposium took place at HKUST(GZ) on July 5, 2025, with the additional theme of naval architecture and marine engineering. All symposia have gathered many domestic and international engineering technology leaders and industry pioneers, attracting over 350 participants each year.
The 1st Symposium on Latest Advances in Marine Land Development Technology was hosted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST-GZ) at the HKUST campus.
Over 200 experts and representatives from government and enterprises across mainland China and Hong Kong attended the event, which stands as the first large-scale academic exchange co-hosted by the two universities.

On World Oceans Day, 8 June 2024, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) co-hosted the 2nd Symposium on Latest Advances in Marine Land Development Technology together with HKUST (Guangzhou). Held on the HKUST campus, the conference drew more than 240 attendees including academicians, industry experts as well as government and enterprise representatives from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, the United States and other regions. The event received institutional support from the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the China Association for Science and Technology, Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and Hong Kong Civil Engineering and Development Department.

The First International Ship and Offshore Engineering Equipment and the Third Future Offshore Human Settlement Engineering Development Technology Seminar (Nansha) was held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) during July 5–6, 2025. Co-organized by HKUST (Guangzhou), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (SML), CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd., and CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., the event garnered support from numerous engineering organizations across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and overseas institutions. More than 400 experts as well as government and enterprise representatives from home and abroad participated in the conference.
